When Is the Best Time to Visit Tanjung Puting? Here's the Answer!
Planning a trip to explore the wild beauty of Tanjung Puting and meet orangutans in their natural habitat? One of the most important things to consider is: when is the best time to go?
The best time to visit Tanjung Puting National Park is typically between January and April, when the Moyleyana flower blooms and various wild berries flourish along the riverbanks. The Moyleyana flower plays a vital role in the park’s ecosystem, attracting a wide range of wildlife, including the annual arrival of flying foxes, which are drawn to its rich nectar.
During this period, visitors have reported sightings of rare wildlife including the clouded leopard, wild orangutans, slow lorises, bornean crestless fireback and even sun bears often directly from the boat as they cruise through the park’s waterways.
One of the highlights for visitors is watching orangutans at feeding stations, which usually happen around 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, depending on the location (Pondok Tanggui, Tanjung Harapan, or Camp Leakey). During the dry season, orangutans are more likely to show up, as natural food sources become more limited in the wild.
